First of all - our rails are made of high grade MECHANICAL STEEL tubing - not pipe - so they won’t bend or crack (we agree - if someone spends that kind of money, they should get something that will last a long time....and they will definitely last longer than your skates.....)
Second - These rails are designed to help skaters learn on and hopefully not get hurt trying. . . Our bases are heavy duty cast iron for weight (holds the rail so that you can learn to lock on) with no sharp edges to cut you and are designed not to have chunks sticking out to trip you up when you are coming off......(check out the GRIND SPINE ) The molds to make these bases cost a fortune - but everyone agrees that they’re worth it!
Next we have to buy boxes so that we can send the Rails to where they got to go - (no choice - shipping regulations) Also, we have to pay for all of those cool Hot Rails ads
that help pay for those Phatt Skate Magazines that keep everybody up on the latest -
without advertisers - there’d be no magazines.
Then we have things like - sk8chat.com - the Chaos Competition -
IISS Amsterdam 1997 Finals, and the NISS TOUR - For instance, Hot Rails is a NISS Sponsor - which means
Hot Rails gives NISS a little piece of the money from each rail to help pay for the Series -
that way NISS can have the competitions open for everyone to participate and they don’t
have to burden the skaters with the real costs. If they did - no one could afford to
compete.... We feel that its important to support our sport.
And last but not least - because we sell to the public - we have to have INSURANCE, the ”MOTHER LOAD” of why our rails cost what they cost.
Hope that this helps explain stuff - we think that it’s great that kids make their own rails -
very cool! We’re also glad that the kids who can’t make their own, or who don’t know
how, now have a place to buy them, and, at the same time, are able to donate a little help
to support our sport....... Take care.
